Colton James shoots video at local honky tonk

Country singer Colton James recently shot a music video at a Dickson honky tonk.

James performed several takes of his latest single “Date With Dixie” May 27 at Sandilly’s Bar and Grill on Livestock Center Road in Dickson, while a film crew with Task Force Films recorded footage.

James co-wrote the song with Greg Crowe, who played lead guitar during shooting. James said he wanted to write a song that everyone could sing along with and relate to.

“Date With Dixie” is a tribute cut featuring 27 different song references from James’ favorite artists. He was inspired to draft the tune after returning home from a tour. He was playing the guitar while relaxing with his wife, and simply singing about being on the road, reliving a few memories and mixing in some cover tunes.

“So many artists come up in honky tonks and cut their teeth playing cover tunes,” said James. “The song is a tribute to some of my favorites and to all honky tonks and the supporting musicians.”

Derrick Holderby, with Task Force Films Production Co., said they were looking for a honky tonk or road house that fit the mood and feel of the song, and Sandilly’s met the criteria.

James’ new album featuring “Date With Dixie” will be available at most retail venues by the end of June. The album will be released in certain Walmarts prior to that date, and on his Web site www.coltonjamesmusic.com. Ride N High Records will release the album.

Colton "Shoots for the Cure" in Rochester

The first ever "Shoot For The Cure" event took place Saturday, July 23rd, at Coyote Creek in Rochester. The cancer research fundraiser held a shooting contest during the day and a concert with country singer, Colton James, in the evening. But as we found out, cancer doesn't care whether you're famous or not.

You may never have heard of Colton James or listened to one of his songs. But that might soon change. James participated in the "Shoot For The Cure" event at Coyote Creek Gun and Archery.

The avid bow hunter put on a concert to help raise money for ASL Cancer Research.

"I lost my dad a year ago in May, to cancer," says Craig Reichel.

Craig Reichel owns Coyote Creek.

"There isn't anyone who isn't touched by cancer," he says. "Either themselves, their immediate family or their friends. We're all touched by cancer."

And that includes James himself.

"When you're sitting there with somebody that you've shared good times with and you're holding their hand and you're watching life slip away... it just changes everything," says James.

And hopefully makes life that much more special. Whether that means indulging your hobbies... or taking your life's work and using it for the greater good.

"Each story is different. And each person is different," says James. "It really made me realize the importance of working really hard to help out because there's a lot of people out here suffering from this disease and losing family members and it doesn't have to be that way."

Colton to play at "The Richest Marlin and Tuna Tournament in the World"

Hosted in Cape May, NJ, the Mid-Atlantic 500,000 is boasted to be one of the world's top events for competitive fishing with the unprecedented upfront prize of $500,000. The event started 20 years ago as the first million-dollar billfishing competition and has only continued to flourish since. The event is known for its family friendly fun, camaraderie and of course great fishing. It is a must attend event for every serious fisherman.

This year, Colton will be joining in the festivities. He will be headlining a concert of the contestants on August 25th. According to the competition's website, “Colton’s motto is “101 Proof Country” and he will be here with his band to play his latest hits including ‘Brave Men’, a powerful tribute to our American troops."

Colton Kicks off his Radio Tour!

Colton James has officially kicked off his first radio tour to coincide with the recent national release of his new single, "Date with Dixie" on Ride n' High records!!

 It's an exciting and busy week as Colton is visiting radio stations in the southeast. So far this week, Colton has visited stations such as 97.3 the eagle in Virginia Beach, Virginia; 94.7 WQDR in Raleigh, North Carolina. Colton also stopped by Apex broadcasting in Charleston, South Carolina and met program director of Kickin' Country 92.5 WCKN.

 Many more station visits are planned for the rest of the week and all will be recognized here as well over the next few days. Colton is very appreciative of all the support that country radio has given him so far, and he is available to work with stations nationally in any and all local promotions.

 Upcoming radio tours are being planned for Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi as well as the Northeast and the Midwest. Additionally, sponsors are lining up for regional radio tours and more information will be released as soon as details are finalized.

What a weekend great weather! Starting from Friday to Sunday non-stop both day and night 30 country music artists on 400 acres of land with camping and a pond.The fans came by the thousands each day Friday 8K, Sat 15K, Sunday 15K ( our estimates ) but nobody was really counting just enjoying. It was exciting to see the rising stars on both stages opening for major acts such as Randy Travis and Alan Jackson.

It was very hard for this editor to choose the editors pick of rising stars with the amount of great new talent that appeared with spectacular performances. After several days of collaborating with other media and talent managers our choice was Colton James. He has worked hard and has a great management team which is really important. His newest single ” Take This Country Back ” is real and a tear jerker! Colton James takes his work very serious and in my opinion he will be climbing those charts real soon.

The organizers of this event were on top of everything and kept things going smooth for the fans. No major incidents that we are aware of and I must say the security did a great job controlling the cheering crowds for all three days. Happy Trails and hope we see you next year
